Meet Your Guru Ji

Manoj Govindraj.

Manoj Govindraj is a Hindustani classical vocalist, performer, and teacher whose journey connects classical rigor with modern musical expression. He began formal music training at seven and later studied under respected gurus including Mrs. Vineeta Tembe, Pandit Prabhakar Karekar, Pandit Ramesh Prem, and Mrs. Geeta Prem.

After moving to the United States in 2004, he taught Hindustani Classical Music at the Academy of Indian Music in New Jersey for a decade. Today, he teaches Hindustani classical and light music, vocal and harmonium, through Swar-Ras School of Music.

Our Story

The Swar-Ras School of Music

Swar-Ras School of Music was founded on January 21, 2015. The school name reflects its purpose: helping students experience the rasa, or emotional essence, carried by each swar. The program trains students in Hindustani vocal and harmonium through a structured curriculum while keeping the learning process joyful, disciplined, and personally meaningful.

Traditional Learning

Students learn directly with the teacher, either one-to-one or in small groups, to understand the detail and discipline of classical music.

Online Classes

Distance is no longer a barrier. Online training brings guru-shishya style learning to students wherever they are.

Structured Curriculum

The curriculum is divided into basic, intermediate, and advanced stages for steady growth in theory, voice, raga, and performance.

Beyond Classes

Performance, appreciation, and community

Students are encouraged to appreciate the effort behind this art form and to share their own progress through recitals and school events.
